Real-time multiplayer SAT-prep game, senior capstone for MyEdMaster

appscapstone

What it is

A competitive SAT-prep game built for MyEdMaster during my ASU senior capstone (CSE 485/486). Up to eight students join a shared room, race through SAT questions and can place optional wagers on a live leaderboard. Solo test prep becomes a group study session.

What I built

I designed and implemented the room-based real-time backend, and worked on slices of the React frontend. I also wrote sprint reports and test plans, and gave the architecture talk for the project’s public deliverables.

How it works

The backend follows an authoritative server pattern over WebSocket. The server owns the round timers, scoring, betting state (fold, match or raise) and round transitions. Clients only send actions, so a client can’t change its own score.

A Django REST API stores room metadata and an event for every question, and emails a PDF report after each game.

Result

Delivered to MyEdMaster, a paying client, after 11 sprints of the full development cycle: sprint reports, test plans and stakeholder demos.
